Climbing Stetind

The peak of the landmark mountain Stetind in Nordland, Norway, is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. The normal route is a hiking trip until one reaches the lower Halls Fortopp, but the traverse from here up to the main peak, from which the photo is taken, requires belaying, and a short climb via the fingertip traverse to pass a rock called "Mysosten" (grade 4). A more difficult but very popular route is via the South Pillar, consisting of 14 rope lengths.

Viewpoint Snøhetta

The viewpoint pavilion at Hjerkinn in the Dovre mountains, opened in 2011, offers a fantastic view of Snøhetta (the peak to the right) and the surrounding mountains. The pavilion was designed by the famous Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta (yes, they have the taken their name from this mountain!), who are the architects behind large projects like Oslo Opera House, the Library in Alexandria and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York. The Viewpoint pavilion is open during the summer season, and requires a 20 minute walk to get there.

Kiting is not only done on a board on the water, but also on snow, using skis. This is from Hovden in Setesdal, Norway - a popular ski resort.

No way to stop from here! A junior ski jumper is leaving the start gate in the famous Holmenkollen hill in Oslo. Taken during a training session before a Norway Cup competition the last winter the old hill was used, before it was demolished for complete rebuilding in 2009. The old construction had been modified and enlarged several times, ending up with a rather challenging hill with an extremely steep inrun and a very high profile during the initial part of the jump. FIS thought it had become too dangerous and old fashioned, and demanded a new hill before it would give Oslo the 2011 Nordic Ski World Championship. The city, wanting to remain the world's winter sports capitol, complied, tore down the whole thing and built a new one, which is probably the most costly ski jumping hill ever built (but a very good one indeed!).
