Handheld Northern Light photography
The quality of this photo is poor compared to the many fantastic northern light pictures one can see today, But this was taken handheld with a Sony RX100, through the cockpit window on a flight from Svalbard (LYR) to Tromsø (TOS). This camera's "handheld twilight" mode takes a burst of 6 photos, and then align and merge the shots into one, getting rid of a good part of the noise, and avoiding long exposure blur. The light from the aurora is usually too weak to make it possible to shoot conventionally without a tripod and firm ground under the feet!
