Snøhetta, Dovre mountains (winter)
Snøhetta, with it's 2286 meters AMSL, is not the highest mountain in Norway (and even though Norway is a very mountainous country, the highest peak, Galdhøpiggen, is only 2469 meters). It's profile is very well known however, visible from the main highway when crossing the Dovre mountain range between Oslo and Trondheim, which also is the ancient route between the two cities. The highest peaks in Norway are found in Jotunheimen, while Snøhetta is the highest outside this area. But ever since the Norwegian constitutional assembly in 1814, after having written the new constitution, declared "Agreed and faithful until Dovre falls", the peak of the mountan range, Snøhetta, has been regarded by many as the real Norwegian National mountain.
